PERSONAL STYLE FOR WOMEN

STYLE is not about beauty, age, size, wealth or even fashion, its about knowing and respecting yourself for who you are (with no strings attached) and having the confidence to discover and project your unique style in a consistent and confident manner.

A great visual image increases self-esteem and confidence: when you know you look great you walk, talk and think differently. Your improved appearance and renewed confidence will result in others seeing you in a positive new light, which will attract new and exciting opportunities and relationships.

I have met with Ann Reinten from TAIC last year in Melbourne Australia and was introduced and tried her PERSONAL STYLE PORTFOLIO. It is excellent and working for me because some styles just suit me better. I can fully recommend it.

One can order it from the Internet and it is available in a Hard Copy and Electronic Version (cheaper). Please try the FREE SAMPLER first!!!

SKIRTS

Can't believe it 's September already, now for us on this side of the world this means Spring - always a nice fresh time of the year, one can see colour and flowers everywhere!

Off to OZ soon again. This time I am preparing for the summer. Last year I was caught off-guard with the heat. So I have decided to look at SKIRTS: they are so easy to construct. They are Voluminous, Handkerchief, A-line, Gypsy, Broomstick, Half and Full circles, Tiers and Layers. Then of course the traditional Pencil Skirt, on a yoke or waistband, and of course pleats and godets can be added almost anywhere. The choices are endless!

Get moving with a smart, swingy skirt with flare to spare! Long, short or somewhere in-between for summer or winter!

You know you can change skirt patterns to be on the bias, by just changing the grain line, you get a complete different look! The true bias is always 45 degrees from the straight of grain of the fabric. To hang properly it is essential that the true bias runs through the center of the panel or in some cases through the center front and back of the garments.

Easy to draw your own full or half circle skirt pattern. Draw a rectangle on a piece of paper, longer than the length of the skirt.

The Formula to cut a full circle skirt:                                                    Waist measurement - 4cm ÷ 6 = Radius                                                   70cm - 4cm =         66cm ÷ 6 = 11cm                                                  Measure length of skirt

The Formula to cut a half circle skirt:                                                   Waist measurement - 4cm ÷ 3 = Radius                                                    70cm - 4cm =         66cm ÷ 3 = 22cm                                                 Measure length of skirt.

Godets

Godets are seam insertions which every dressmaker should use. They are cut to suit the design of a garment and is easy to insert in any seam and change a design of an ordinary pattern. Their function is both ornamental and practical, and the rest of the garment is cut so that the godet becomes a necessary addition to the design.

Godets come in varying degrees of a circle, depending on the effect the designer is trying to achieve. Some guidance on how to cut godets can be viewed below:

Sewing Tip

On flared or Bias-cut skirts, a Rolled Hem is the best method! I suggest you start with lightweight, drapery fabric and use a narrow hemming method to finish the edges, so your results drape effortlessly.

Supplement 258

The most recent Supplement number 258 (Autumn) is now available. In there, you will find the following interesting patterns:

Trousers galore in this one, smart or casual!. Long or just over the knee, bootleg, tapered, wide, hipster. It's all in this one.

Dresses, off the shoulder fitted stretch dress or top, a good basic shirt waister. Also a very pretty sundress or top which is ruched in front with interesting straps. This is a must; you can also change the complete look by using evening fabric with the dress. There is a bolero style jacket going over it, can just imagine it in lace and wow!

Tops - V-neck and round necks, with frills and cross-over. Blouses with collars and without, some with tucks in the front.

Fuller Figure: Casual and more dressy patterns with some interesting skirts with bask or frill at the bottom and a very elegant jacket with a three quarter sleeve. Again a very interesting dress with a pointy hemline.

Men’s: We've got good trousers, slim leg and a great jacket with a detachable collar.
