New Year's Resolutions

It’s a New Year again, with all the usual New Year’s Resolutions! Well this year is the year of revamping my wardrobe at long last! First…… if you start, only do it season by season otherwise it’s too overwhelming.

To start with, I kick off with our winter season; remember I’m in New Zealand, so it’s hot and summary at the moment. Best ever thing to do is get your best friend or sister to clean out the old wardrobe! One who will speak the truth and nothing but the truth!

Looking Good - Selecting Style and Colour!

If by now you still don’t know what colour, style or shape you should wear, take some time out and go shopping, try out all the styles and colours and make notes what’s LOOKING GOOD AND WHAT NOT!

With all this in mind, please not on the same day because you will be exhausted and won’t be able to think straight, arrange a day with a friend/sister and dress up. Taking all your clothes of that season out on the bed and arrange by colour.

Style your hair and DO YOUR MAKE-UP. Put on some good underwear and panty hose. You will now fit on everything and nothing will look good if YOU look awful.

Seasonal FOCUS

FOCUS on whatever season you decided to start with.

·               What is ready to get tossed out as it’s been worn out!

·               Which item hasn’t been worn for a whole season – chuck it!

·               Does it need fixing?

·               Size wise did you change? Our bodies do change with age and although it might be a very good garment; if it doesn’t look good, donate it. I know everything comes back in 7-10years time but in those years your bone structure DOES change. It is incredible but the sooner you accept it, the better you will be dressed. Take note of your body changes, you don’t need to tell the world… they will not notice……. just dress accordingly.

Wardrobe Capsule

I started with winter, so that will be my new capsule that I’m going to work with. For your first basic capsule you need a Jacket, Trousers, Skirts and Tops! Start out with your favourite plain colour.......black, brown, navy or camel!!

These are the items that still look good; some need mending or need to be updated with new trims/buttons.

JACKET

  •  Grey short jacket, zipped that fits well.

TROUSERS

  •  Black smart/casual depending what I wear with it

  •  Black stripe denim casual

SKIRTS

  •  Striped pencil skirt (black with green stripe)

  •  Pencil black skirt (slightly changed side seam to look more interesting)

TOPS

  •  Black zipped (white zip) top with collar

  •  White flunel neck

  •  Light Blue polo neck

  •  Green button-up blouse ¾ sleeve

  •  Peach and white t-shirt

  •  Light purple t-shirt

With these few garments I can have more than 16 combinations, but I need to add another jacket and either some skirts or trousers in a different colour, that will match what I have already got.

So what I’m going to add new is a nice black jacket and a beige smart top as well, with rolled collar cross over and neat little buttons to close. Haven't decided on the skirt and trousers as yet.
